How to Prepare Your Dog for a Week at Dog Boarding 🐾

Planning a trip and leaving your furry friend behind can be tough—but with a little preparation, your pup can enjoy a fun, stress-free stay at their doggy home-away-from-home (like ours at Rocky Mountain Canine 😉).

Here’s a simple checklist to help you prepare your dog for a week at boarding:

1. Pack Their Essentials

Just like us, dogs love the comfort of familiar things. Be sure to pack:

  • Their regular food (pre-portioned is best!)

  • Any medications with clear instructions

  • Their leash, harness, and any comfort items (like a blanket or toy)

  • Emergency contact info, vet details, and any special care notes

Bonus: We provide comfy beds, bowls, toys, and even a post-stay dog wash—so you don’t need to pack the whole house!

2. Make Sure Vaccinations Are Up to Date

Most boarding facilities (including ours) require proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccines. It’s best to double-check that everything is current at least a week before your dog’s stay.

3. Ease Anxiety with a Trial Run (if possible)

If it’s your dog’s first time boarding, a half-day or overnight trial stay can help them get familiar with the space, people, and routines. It helps them feel more confident when they come back for the full week.

4. Keep Drop-Off Calm and Positive

Dogs pick up on our energy—so if you’re feeling nervous or teary-eyed (we get it!), try to keep your goodbye short and sweet. Stay cheerful, give a few kisses and scratches, and trust that they’re in good hands.

5. Stay Connected with Updates

At Rocky Mountain Canine, we send daily photo and video updates of your pup’s adventures, and every dog wears a tracker so you can see just how much fun they’re having. You can relax and enjoy your trip, knowing they’re safe, happy, and getting plenty of love.

6. Be Prepared for a Tired Pup

After a week of off-leash hikes, playtime with new pals, and exciting smells galore, your dog may come home happy—and a little sleepy! Let them rest, hydrate, and settle in once they’re back.

Boarding should feel like a vacation for your pup too—and with the right preparation, it will be! 🐶💤
